Our design for a new single storey extension to the rear of an existing semi-detached stone villa situated in the Dundonald Road Conservation Area, Kilmarnock. The existing lean-to outbuildings are replaced with a sensitively scaled wrap-around extension with a low level mono-pitch zinc roof, ensuring that the existing hipped slate roof and chimney remains dominant from the garden mews. New materials have been carefully selected to harmonise with the existing material palette of this historic town setting, which tonally provides a calm and reassuring exterior.

Internally, the existing single storey parts of the villa are reorganised to provide the clients with an open plan kitchen, dining and living area. The utility is placed to the rear of the kitchen to allow direct uninterupted access to the garden. The rafters of the existing hipped roof are exposed and new velux roof lights inserted to provide lots of natural light over the island unit. The existing floor is raised to improve insulation and existing uPVC windows replaced with high performance triple glazed units.
