EXTENSION & CONVERSION, NEWTON MEARNS

Extension and conversion of an existing detached house in Newton Mearns overlooking Broom Park. This project involves a number of subtle interventions carefully integrated into the existing house.  This includes a new front porch providing a sheltered front door, entrance lobby and reconfigured hall.

A new side extension provides a top lit utility space, shower room and bike/bin store facing the street. At the rear, the utility extension is connected to a converted garage providing additional storage and direct access to the garden. 

The external materials adopted include white render, perforated terracotta brickwork, black slatted timber doors and an Anthra-Zinc roof.  These were carefully selected to blend and enhance the existing materials, to create a cohesive tapestry of colour and pattern to the street. 

Internally bold green and blue cabinetry colours were adopted to contrast within the white connected spaces of the extension and conversion.
