CURRENT STAGE

Planning approved for enabling phase

Flockhart Architects were selected in June 2017 to carry out a feasibility study & community consultation for the refurbishment and extension of this village hall in the picturesque village of Kirkgunzeon. The hall is run by a local committee who wish to safeguard the functioning of the hall and develop its use for future generations.  The hall is currently in a very poor state of repair and redevelopment is required in order to improve the facilities, increase the hall capacity and make the building more accessible.

A number of options were considered, however the committee favoured a new west facing extension which connects & opens up the existing hall to the playing field to the west. The extension provides a new accessible entrance, a new reception/lounge, improved toilet and shower facilities and kitchen/bar area. The installation of a collapsible stage in the existing hall would bring the green room into the main space during large community events such as ceilidhs and weddings.

In February 2021, we received Planning Permission for phase one of this project which involves the complete overhaul of the existing slate and lead roof.  This enabling phase includes the removal of the flat roofed dormers along with remedial works to address ongoing roof leaks and structural defects. The works also include the replacement of the Asbestos Roof over the male toilets.
